Future Housing Needs and How Best to Meet Them?

This TWRI Policy and Research Conference will be held at Park Inn Radisson Hotel, York on Friday 4th November 2016, 10.00 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

The Conference will be chaired by Professor Alan Townsend (MRTPI, FeRSA).

The Conference will feature presentations from academics, government departments and agencies, local authorities and TWRI Policy and Research.

Below are some of the themes that the Conference will cover:-

  • Central Government policies on supporting the delivery of new homes
  • Local Plans: housing land availability issues, planning process and setting targets
    • Translating objectively assessed need into housing requirement
    • Balancing economic (jobs) growth with labour supply (population) growth
    • Local Plan preparation: strategic priorities and the duty to cooperate
    • Local Plan examinations and housing and employment land targets: lessons learned from recent examinations
  • TWRI’s 2015-based population and household projections and impact of migration on housing
  • House prices and affordability
  • Impact of London housing market on neighbouring councils and beyond
  • The massively growing demand for private housing for the additional millions that are assumed will be moving to London over the next 10 years
  • Access to housing in a changing welfare regime
  • The future of social housing and right-to-buy from housing associations as well as councils
  • Quality of housing stock, vacant properties and private letting to students

The Conference will give attendees an opportunity to engage with presenters, exhibitors and other delegates.

The Conference is aimed at government departments and agencies, local authorities, academics, practitioners and policy makers in economic development, housing, employment land, regeneration and planning across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Conference fee is £105 (plus VAT) if booked by 20th January 2016, £135 (plus VAT) after that date, including lunch and refreshments.
